R&D Assistant, Product Development

SUMMARY

Innovation Product Development is the R&D function responsible for new formulations and ingredient technologies launching in the marketplace. The teams are based around the globe, working closely with R&D Operations teams, supply, procurement, and commercial teams to identify and deliver projects that drive revenue growth and create new and innovative products that Nourish the World’s Children for the Best Start in Life.   

The role of an assistant in Innovation Product Development is to implement functional specific work associated with infant child and/or adult nutrition innovation projects and portfolios, supporting the delivery of projects and solving technical problems. The assistant is responsible for executing work on specific projects and delivering against team KPI’s. 

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Deliver technical projects, ensuring that activities are executed to GMP and GLP standards required for the relevant product classification.
• Ensure all required formulation, feasibility work, analysis, validation, stability testing, industrial trials and dossier preparation are performed on time and to the required quality and regulatory standards and in line with the company processes
• Execute lab and pilot scale experiments to generate critical data supporting innovation projects.  Activities include material planning, lab and pilot equipment cleaning/sanitizing, some pilot equipment operation, sample testing, and stability protocol execution.
• Utilize enterprise systems (SAP, GLIMS) for material management and Quality Control sample submission and data management/analysis. 
• Produce high quality documentation such as lab reports, data summaries, experimental plans and protocols, and properly prepared laboratory notebooks.

KEY CHALLENGES

• Support of Product Development deliverables for Innovation projects in the IFCN product portfolio with an emphasis on speed-to-market and exceptional quality.  
• To work with partners (supply, regulatory, nutritional science, PMO, engineering, R&D Operations) to deliver projects/solutions across the infant and child nutrition portfolio
• Supporting the delivery multiple projects across a number of brands and technology platforms
• Prioritization of personal workload
• Liaison with colleagues across the R&D and Supply communities to provide technical support.
• Provision of a fast paced scientific service to demanding customers with challenging timelines. 
• Some travel and overtime for execution of projects is possible

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree (Food/Nutritional Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry or other relevant science preferred) with
    0-5 years experience, or HS diploma with minimum 7 years work experience
• Understanding of nutrition and food science or similar desirable
• An excellent technical problem solver
• Use of MS Office for organizing and reporting data
• Experience of generating technical documentation and reports desirable
• Experience of working with multiple partners to deliver success desirable
• Experience in a laboratory, manufacturing and/or GMP setting is desirable
