Senior Safety Associate/Toxicologist

Key Responsibilities


To support the Consumer Safety Line Manager in completing the assigned safety assessments of raw materials and complete formulations in the Home, Hygiene and Consumer health segments
  
•    Work collaboratively with the Category Teams to establish and implement product safety and risk assessment strategies within agreed timescales to bring competitive advantage to RB brands.
•    Generate the global, core regulatory dossier and relevant human health safety assessments in order to deliver a pipeline of product innovation in the assigned Category segment(s).
•    Ensure on-going regulatory and safety compliance of RB’s existing product portfolio.
•    Liaise with a range of colleagues from Global Regulatory Affairs, Marketing and R&D Category teams
•    Work closely with external partners, contractors and licensees to ensure that product safety issues are properly managed and resolved.
•    Assist in the definition of Company safety policies, guidelines and procedures.
•    Ensure hazard and risk assessments, and risk mitigation information for products are carried out in accordance with RB policies, guidelines and statutory requirements globally.
•    Ensure products are properly categorized per global requirements and guidelines.
•    Ensure that hazard and risk mitigation information is incorporated into core Product Safety Data Sheets (PSDS) for products in accordance with RB policies and statutory requirements. 
•    As necessary, and in compliance with RB policies, manage all toxicology and safety trials or tests required to support product registration and safety or to substantiate claims.
•    Assist with statutory reporting requirements and assist in the response to adverse health effects complaints.

Key Challenges

 

•    Work across different categories globally and keeping abreast of product regulatory requirements and PR and ingredient safety issues within all RB product categories.
•    Ability to respond in a timely manner to many and varied product safety issues which impact on both existing products and new product developments.
•    To keep on top of product/chemical safety legislation and changes to regulations impacting RB products and businesses and ensuring that the appropriate people are aware of potential issues and that necessary action is taken.
•    Facilitate the relationship with Category Development (R&D, Global Marketing), country Marketing, Supply and other functions to ensure the “seamless” building of safety compliance in our project and product portfolio.

Qualifications

 

•    M.S. (minimum 5 years’ experience) / Ph.D. (3-5 years experience) level in Toxicology or a related discipline. 
•    Experience in an environment of regulatory toxicology and product safety preferred.
•    Demonstrated experience in preparing product risk assessments, and developing risk mitigation practices, for chemical substances and preparations.
•    Competent at reviewing toxicology and related chemical safety data.
•    Working knowledge of mammalian toxicology assays and testing protocols.
•    Working knowledge of chemical legislation, safety and labelling of chemicals and preparations.
•    Demonstrated ability to handle competing priorities effectively.
•    Proven track record in active collaboration with R&D and non-R&D functions as well as third parties.
•    Pro-active self-direction with a high level of initiative and persistence and a very much hands on approach to results delivery.
•    The ability to effectively manage projects and relationships with local partners, contractors, and consultants to achieve RB objectives.
•    Industry experience, preferably in FMCG;
•    Results oriented, entrepreneurial and self-motivating.
•    Bias for action, capability to define, evaluate and take risks
•    Excellent organizational skills 
•    Excellent communication skills both written and oral (in English)
•    Strong interpersonal skills
•    Capable of building strong working relationships and motivating teams to deliver outstanding results with or without hierarchical relationships.
•    Commercial understanding of corporate and operational business issues.
•    Ability to transform solid thinking into action (a thinker and an achiever)
•    Strong intellectual curiosity

•    Excellent presentation skills.
