Director, Global Safety Assurance (GSA) Hygiene Innovation




The Global Safety Assurance (GSA) function within Reckitt, ensures the safety of all innovative and marketed products, driving safety by design and ensuring the application of risk assessment and safety compliance across the business. 


GSA proactively works alongside multidisciplinary functions to contribute to the development of safe, sustainable Reckitt products throughout the product lifecycle.  This team is purposed to drive technical capability, risk assessment, and seek innovative solutions to support the safety and sustainability of Reckitt pipeline and marketed products.

Role Purpose


The Director GSA Hygiene Innovation will have global responsibilities providing strategic guidance and innovative solutions to the Reckitt Hygiene organisation, while representing and fulfilling the responsibilities of Global Safety Assurance.


Serve as a Safety (Toxicology) leader for key stakeholders with regards to the communication of safety issues and concerns impacting the development of new and innovative Reckitt products.  Leads a team of dedicated technical experts to deliver high quality, timely safety expertise documentation to meet Reckitt safety requirements and support market registration.


The role will involve guiding internal teams and providing technical and strategic leadership to the Reckitt Global Safety Assurance team to include the production of safety evaluations and regulatory documentations to support the safety of Reckitt products.


The Director will be a business partner and a subject matter expert within the safety organisation with strong business acumen and an in-depth technical knowledge of consumer products, including detergents, biocides, fragrances, and commodity chemicals.


Provide guidance and leadership to a dedicated team of toxicologists and experts in toxicological risk assessment. 


Ensure the design, development of studies as appropriate, to ensure the safe development of new technologies during the product lifecycle. 


To provide timely communications to internal teams and external agencies in relation to safety issues related to Reckitt pipeline and marketed products.


As part of the extended leadership team within Global Safety Assurance you will provide appropriate governance and oversight to ensure delivery of timely, high quality safety output from your team.


As an experienced leader, you enjoy building teams and sharing your knowledge to improve results, but are also comfortable having more difficult conversations, when required.  You will be accountable and responsible for the training and mentoring of toxicologists to continuously develop their technical expertise and Reckitt safety led competencies.


To provide critical safety input to the development of innovative products, allowing a clear guiderail through development. 


Follow scientific and regulatory development in the field of product safety by active participation in relevant external bodies and meetings as appropriate to pro-actively address and implement new knowledge and standards where applicable. ·The individual will be responsible for ensuring that the Company safety standards are met for all existing Company products and will actively contribute to the development and maintenance of processes, policies, guidelines to drive high quality consistent deliverables.

Skills / Experience


•    BSc with a higher qualification (MSc or PhD) in toxicology or related discipline preferred together with documented evidence of product safety experience.
•    Demonstrated toxicological leadership experience in a FMCG role (10+ years preferred) with a strong working knowledge of global consumer product regulations. 
•    Proven ability to provide strategic direction and leadership to support both the Hygiene business unit and Global Safety Assurance teams to ensure quality, alignment, and cohesion of activities within the function. 
•    Ability to effectively communicate strategy to key internal stakeholders with highly proficient written, verbal and listening skills. You will also need good business acumen and interpersonal skills, to deliver the appropriate safety expertise and competencies to provide leadership to the technical teams and deliver innovation of Reckitt hygiene products.
•    Demonstrated examples and experience of delivering strategic approaches to support the development of innovative consumer or healthcare products.
•    Good working knowledge of the principles of generating safety language labelling.
