A consumer data steward is a type of data steward who manages the data related to customers, such as their preferences, behaviour, feedback, and transactions. They are responsible for ensuring that the customer data is accurate, consistent, secure, and compliant with relevant regulations

 

SCOPE / DIMENSIONS OF ROLE

  • Ownership of the Consumer Data Domain from a data governance standpoint based on the strategy and goals co-defined in partnership with the Data Domain Owner (a functional senior leader assigned to Consumer data),
  • Owner of the global policies, standards related to the Consumer Data Domain (includes 1P, 2P, 3P consumer data, consumer data platforms, omnichannel Media/Ads placement, and Brand Building),
  • Ensure the quality and fitness for purpose of the organization's Consumer data assets, including the metadata for those data assets,
  • Drive proper Data Cataloguing and Data Quality assessments with the different Consumer dataset owners to drive the data governance agenda in a sustainable (effective and efficient) way,

 

Be the link between local market needs and Consumer Domain standards to help ensure end to end visibility of the data domain and priority.

Act as the SPOC for transformational initiatives relating to the Consumer data domain from a BU/Function standpoint,

Manage data access / provisioning by:

 

  • Defining access permission plans
  • Monitoring distribution of data from the domain
  • Approving data provisioning to authorized users
  • Supporting data users as a data domain SME
  • Ensuring data access and provisioning comply with standards and controls
  • Define the data profile, identify the data assets in general and specially the Critical Data Elements, and determines the official sources of data in scope to address use case requirements,
  • Define / validate business definitions, glossary and taxonomy for data elements and implement changes where needed. Review data lineage and technical metadata for data elements,
  • Define business rules and standards for relevant data domain, prioritizes issues to remediate, and oversees remediation planning and implementation,
  • Lead root cause analysis, prioritizes and manages data quality issue management and remediation.

 

KEY CHALLENGES 

  • Ensure all initiatives are supported by a sound business case which identifies measures of success and is value based. Ensuring that this is fully supported and required actions to realise value are owned by the relevant stakeholders. 
  • Ensuring focus on data quality and data cataloguing in a sustainable way,
  • Optimize workflows and communications building effective and strong working relationships with the different data stakeholders (internal and external, IT, Consumer Relations, Marketing, R&D, Customers) as well as business colleagues at Global, Area and Regional Level.
  • Ability to convince and influence regional data stewardship stakeholders to ensure that the global policies defined are followed effectively and be able to monitor adherence.
  • Working with a large matrixed ecosystem of current and potential internal and external partner organisations to provide value to the organisation.
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of the overall Global IT & Digital and Data & Analytics Strategy
