Automation Technician

Duties:
• Lead on Delta V program changes (SCR) and Automation projects by utilizing internal and external resources to assist for completion. Responsible for assisting users in capturing desired requirements, translating these into implementable Automation solutions, and delivering these on a timely basis.
• Support start-ups related to SCR and project changes and ensure that any contractors assisting with the work are following company procedures and policies.  
• Address production issues including non-conformities and downtime follow-up, prioritize work, and make sure production teams is aware of Automation’s progress on changes. 
• Assist with maintaining departmental and projects budgets. Help keep spending within budget.
• Team up with the Automation Technicians and provide trainings in order to have better production coverage 
• Proactively utilize system resources to maximize production uptime and reliability of systems. Leverage programming skills and process understanding to optimize existing automation system, new equipment and etc. 
• Utilize knowledge of Computer System Validation to create and execute Automation validation deliverables for SCRs and projects.  Assist with determining the criticality and risk of SCR’s and projects in order to develop a validation plan with appropriate deliverables.  For outsourced projects, review and approve documents such as the Functional Specification, Design Specification, and associated Test Protocols.  Assist in making sure project validation document delivery schedules are met.
• Utilize knowledge of network and production database to support Automation SCR’s and projects. Maintain and upgrade network infrastructure with external resources’ support. Guide and help to develop existing automation system to a higher level to meet company’s future need 
• Participate in rotating on-call schedule to provide 24/7 support of plant Automation systems

 

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Process or Chemical Engineering preferred with 5-10+ years’ experience within an Infant Formula, Food, Nutrition, or Pharmaceutical company.  Also consider those with 10+ years’ experience in the Automation area in the same industries. Master Degree will be a plus but not required
• Strong knowledge in areas of liquid and powder processing operations are desired. Deep experience working with Distributed Control Systems and batch Delta V programming are required. Knowledge of building automation system (including Metasys) or Allen Bradley PLCs will be a big plus
• Knowledge of industrial computer and automation network/communication protocols including Ethernet TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, PROFIBUS and/or BACnet and etc. to support project development, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Knowledge of database historian systems such as OSI PI, VM, Microsoft SQL, Production reports data collection and etc. 
• Understanding of maintenance best practices, safety, quality, cost, HACCP, GMP, and regulatory compliance is a plus.
• Understanding of financial principles, budgeting process, and resource allocation to manage time, space, and material resources to allow for efficient and timely delivery of project and departmental objectives. 
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet or exceed expected goals and work in a fast paced and changing environment
