Regional Corporate Affairs and Internal Communication Director

Scope and Accountability

Employee engagement, Culture and Employee Value Proposition
⦁Design, implement and measure the effectiveness of internal engagement strategies and programmes related to Purpose, Performance and People in North America to drive employee performance, behaviour change and engagement. 
⦁Work collaboratively with the Global Communications team, business and change leadership teams to help set narratives to drive consistency of message, language, and delivery. Build ties between business change and the BAU corporate communication agenda to ensure changes are embedded in the business, are sustainable and reinforced as part of Reckitt’s DNA.
⦁Ensure the ‘lived experience’ for employees in North America is consistent with the Reckitt EVP, by acting as the guardian and chief promoter of a unified culture within the market.

 

Leadership voice & functional business partnering
⦁Act as the market’s chief spokesperson as well as trusted communications advisor to the GBU presidents that operate within the market. You are part of their leadership team and advise on proactive and reactive communications approaches and strategies. 
⦁Establish a unified voice and consistent messaging for the North American Leadership teams and you play a key role in understanding the BUs agenda and in translating that into a communications plan that will effectively engage target audiences in line with the global and regional business goals. This includes internal content creation, cadence of messaging via various channels and platforms and execution internally to the functions and across Reckitt.
⦁Brand support: counsel brands teams on internal and external campaigns to maximize the impact and mitigate any potential risk for Reckitt’s reputation. 

 

Corporate brand
⦁Establish a proactive communications calendar, in line with strategic functional and corporate goals. 
⦁Own and manage the corporate website for the US, as well as other digital channels internally (Corporate Intranet, Emails, Workplace) and externally (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.). 
⦁Work within the Global Communications team to provide a regular stream of stories, contributing to the business storytelling efforts.

Media Relations
⦁Develop strategic media campaigns to build awareness and position our brand in the market place. 
⦁Build relationships with key media outlets to promote our business and brands, garnering news coverage. 
⦁Monitor the media and social landscape to identify threats to our corporate reputation and provide follow-up as appropriate. 
⦁Train and prepare designated leaders and managers for media interviews to ensure success and mitigate potential pitfalls. 

 

Issues & Crisis management
⦁Partner with the business and our I&C team to proactively manage and react to issues relating to our market, including Social Issues, that could affect our corporate reputation. 
⦁Develop training and communications pack for all stakeholders to raise awareness and create messaging synergy. 

 

Government Affairs NA
⦁Engage and educate policymakers in Canada and in the US on topics that are key to our core products and areas of impact. 
⦁Monitor and track proposed legislation; analyze potential impact on company operations; develop positions thereon; communicate views internally and externally (to business partners, customers, and potential allies)
⦁Establish a positive, credible and influential presence for Reckitt on key trade associations, as well as national public policy and legislative groups

 

Stakeholders’ engagement and Social Impact
⦁Develop and lead our social impact initiatives and partnerships in NA, in alignment with Reckitt’s global purpose and goals. 
⦁Contribute to create a better external stakeholder engagement by developing our insights and identifying the most impactful projects.
⦁Monitor external stakeholder and consumer sentiment towards Reckitt in NA and generate appropriate recommendations for both local market and global stakeholders engagement team. 

 

Reporting
⦁Measure delivery against KPI’s and building in processes to inform continuous improvement on internal communications and external affairs activities. 
 

Key Challenges
⦁Heavily matrixed organization, you are responsible for the Corporate Affairs for the 3 Business Units in the region. 
⦁Significant transformation within the broader organization 
⦁Change within communications to establish basic processes, principles and operating model  
⦁The role sits on the Leadership team of each BU and is a member of the global Corporate Affairs team. 

 

Skills & experience required
⦁Strong commercial instincts and technical communication knowledge must be combined with resilience, cultural awareness and diplomacy to achieve stakeholder engagement 
⦁The incumbent must be capable of dealing with ambiguity and applying creativity to develop and implement innovative solutions, often from a nebulous starting point. 
⦁At least 10 years’ experience working at a senior management level in the delivery of high-impact internal, change and stakeholder communication strategies and action plans to help deliver desired business outcomes and protect the corporate reputation. 
⦁Have strong commercial understanding of corporate and operational business issues, and sharp business acumen
⦁Approachable with strong interpersonal and motivational skills. You should have an ability to engage and build strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders at varying levels, and be capable of motivating teams to deliver outstanding results with or without hierarchical relationships
⦁Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, confident in their ability to influence decision-makers, both internally and externally. 
⦁Be creative and digitally savvy with an ability to think out of the box and willing to embrace change
 

Technical/ professional qualifications required
Bachelor’s or master’s degree

⦁Self-starter with high drive to deliver outcomes 
⦁Ability to manage high levels of ambiguity and change 
⦁The incumbent must be able to operate in a highly matrix organisation and can influence the actions of the organisation’s most senior leaders
⦁Ability to work under pressure and manage numerous projects simultaneously, with strong project management skills
