The Global Safety Assurance (GSA) Department is a key function within Reckitt reporting into the Global Executive Committee (GEC). Its responsibility is to ensure the safety of all innovative and marketed products, driving safety by design and ensuring the application of risk assessment and safety compliance across the business.  The Department is developing quickly, with the key goals of:

  • Demonstrating a world-leading approach to taking responsibility for consumers’ safety
  • Integrating safety throughout the Product Lifecycle, in a way that is both proactive and reactive to real-world events
  • Building a strong internal and external presence, as guardians of consumer safety

 

The Global Food Safety team is responsible for setting the right standards globally which are competitive within the industry, compliant with regulations and which capture global trends, anticipating future needs.

 

This role will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and updating raw materials and finished goods food safety standards for all products manufactured under Reckitt’s Nutrition business unit world-wide with a special emphasis on proteins, (dairy, plant based) and their chemistry and toxicology. 

 

In this process of management of global food safety standards, it is expected that due consultation and engagement with relevant functions including (but not limited to) R&D, Procurement, Quality, and externally with various suppliers, external laboratories, and organisations, will be maintained to ensure alignment and smooth implementation.

 

This role will be responsible to advise the business on risk mitigation, analytics (laboratory and methods), and work together with toxicologists to develop internal safety standards where none exists under regulations. This position reports to the Senior Manager - Global Food Safety Standards & Emerging Risks and will partner with Global Quality Assurance, Regulatory Sciences, Research and Development, Nutritional Sciences, Operations and Procurement.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Establish, maintain, and update global food safety standards for protein based and other raw material ingredients used for Reckitt’s Nutrition business.
  • Liaise with Procurement, Supplier Quality, R&D and Regulatory functions to establish and update raw material food safety standards. Engage with suppliers supporting procurement and supplier quality where technical discussions regarding contaminant specifications, methods and toxicology are required.
  • Advise the business on raw material and finished goods safety & compliance including tests, laboratories, and approval status per market.
  • Understand, interpret, and inform Reckitt on Food Safety standards related regulations and new requirements that impact the business by scanning the regulatory and industry horizon.


Skills / Experience:
Specific skill sets include experience in chemical, microbiological, and toxicological food safety issues in the nutrition business, demonstrated verbal and written communication of technical information, and a strong working knowledge of all aspects of highly regulated infant and adult nutrition manufacturing and supply chain processes.


The successful candidate must possess an understanding of effective work styles and be able to achieve results in a matrixed, culturally diverse organization and assimilate new information rapidly as business needs require while managing risks appropriately. The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in food science or Chemistry with strong analytical and toxicological experience is required. An advanced degree is preferred.  
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in food/pharma manufacturing, plant quality role is essential out of which minimum 4 years in nutrition business; 10 years of experience in a quality / Food Safety role in a related food industry is desired.
  • A background with Factory Quality Management experience and/or Regional Food Safety Manager experience with established multinationals is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Food Safety risks.
  • Good understanding of regulatory bodies and current issues of Food Safety, ideally relating to infant nutrition.
  • In-depth understanding of fats & oils, and food technology - chemistry and aware of future developments in the field of nutrition manufacturing business.
  • Cultural sensitivity; operates with a global mind-set with excellent communication skills; need to have the ability to communicate complex concepts both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective team player, strong work ethic, accomplished communicator in a global matrix.
