About the role
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the packaging development of new and existing products to support launches and to improve gross margin.
Your responsibilities
- Design and develop packaging for both new and existing products to support launches.
- Manage new mold development related to packaging components such as bottles, closures, and dispensing systems.
- Design and develop custom manufactured offerings including warehouse club and promotional SKUs.
- Aggressively drive and identify gross margin improvement projects through the optimization of all levels of package design and/or re-design.
- Create and revise packaging specifications, bills of materials, and pallet patterns to support manufacturing.
- Recommend die-lines and approve various artwork related to package components.
- Develop and recommend test methods to evaluate components to ensure compatibility, efficacy, and quality with packaging systems.
- Manage the testing of packaging components with on-site and third-party facilities.
- Manage and report cost saving initiatives for packaging related projects.
- Support the execution of Sustainability initiatives via testing and qualification of packaging components.
- Provide technical expertise to Quality department associates to solve packaging related quality issues.
- Provide imaginative and practicable solutions to a wide range of packaging issues.
- Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to support continuous improvement programs in the manufacturing processes through the redesign of packaging components.
- Benchmark packaging components and packaging processes to identify cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Support cross-functional teams by working closely with Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Commercial teams.
The experience we're looking for
- BS in Packaging Engineering or related scientific field.
- 3+ years related experience.
- Self-starter; able to work with little to no supervision.
- Experience in a factory setting with high volume production of CPGs is strongly preferred.
- Position requires approximately 10% travel.
- Knowledge of packaging (or related) technical procedures commonly used in a lab setting.
- Extensive technical and theoretical knowledge of packaging materials and processes.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and still meet critical project milestones.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, analyze results, and propose changes and improvements.
- Ability to present conclusions and recommendations to management team.
- Knowledge of sustainable packaging and e-commerce.

Salary ranges
USD $91,000.00 - $137,000.00
Pay transparency
The base salary range for this role will vary based on experience in job and industry, training and education, skills relevant to the position, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to the base salary, the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, which is subject to change each year.
