PLM will transform the way that Reckitt operates, across business units and across functions.  The purpose of PLM is to radically transform the way Reckitt hold and manage product data, ranging from the technological systems we will use, to how we define an item and how we use it.  PLM will bring together global R & D, Procurement, Supply, and Marketing to speak the same language, use one source of truth, aid strategic business decision making and make multi-million-pound savings.
Specifications are at the heart of PLM and key to its success. To improve ownership and accountability for packaging materials specifications a new specification management team will be set up with responsibility for managing all packaging material specifications across Core Reckitt. 

About the role

This is a role at the heart of the transformation that PLM will bring to R&D and core Reckitt. You will be responsible for a portfolio of packaging material specifications in core Reckitt, pioneering the new ways of working for how Reckitt’s (General) specifications are written and their relationship with supplier specifications. You will help drive the simplification of our packaging materials portfolio and deliver an enduring positive change in the way in which R&D develops and delivers new products to market. Working within core Reckitt, you will play a lead role in executing the end-to-end business process for packaging material specifications, from their creation to their retirement.

You will also be part of a dedicated team responsible for Packaging specification management. The team is made up of a Specification Management Leader, who you will report into, 2 Specification compliance managers who will manage a pre-defined portfolio of Packaging Specifications by commodity type and a number of Regional Packaging Material specification managers across Germ Protection, Household care, Self Care and Intimate Wellness who will be responsible for the Packaging specifications created in their region.
You will work closely with the Business Process Leader for packaging materials (BPL-PM) who will own the process for specification management that you and your team will follow. You will also work closely with the BPL-PM to set the data quality standards for packaging material specifications. 

Your primary role is to ensure that the writing of new packaging material specifications, and the revision of existing ones is done so following the Business Process defined by the BPL-RM, and in the process raise the quality of packaging material specifications to that defined in the data quality standard for the commodities which are in your portfolio. This will be a collaborative activity, taking inputs from adjacent functions such as Quality, Regulatory, Consumer Safety, Procurement and Manufacturing and using your judgement and experience to strike the optimum balance when some of these requirements are in conflict and through providing governance and KPI reporting to enable continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities

•    Provide leadership to transform our packaging material specification portfolio with focus on the assigned Packaging commodities. 
•     Consolidate our packaging material specification portfolio, removing duplicates, increasing the number of cross-site PM specs where applicable, and broadening the range of our PM specs where appropriate, at all times ensuring they meet the holistic needs of our business.
•    In collaboration with the BPL-PM define a set of data quality standards for our Packaging material specification portfolio and raise the quality of our PM specs to meet these standards.
•    Set up rolling audit programme to track progress against agreed KPI’s and towards the goal of a PM spec portfolio reduced in size and of higher quality.
•    Providing technical analysis of cross regional specification data and making recommendations for remediation and Continuous improvement opportunities.
•    Working with the BPL-PM for guidance follow the process for PM specification management that is defined in our new operating model.
•    Work with Procurement and Specification management team to ensure that our PM spec portfolio is developed whilst being mindful of the packaging materials and associated suppliers that our procurement organization is guiding us to.
•    Collaborate with and nurture good working relationships with our partner organizations who will provide input into specifications, namely regulatory, safety, quality, procurement, manufacturing and of course R&D Packaging development teams to ensure General Specification templates remain fit for purpose.

The experience we're looking for

•    Good degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent experience
•    Previous experience of leading teams or cross functional projects, with the ability to influence in areas with no direct reporting authority.
•    Good communication, influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to operate successfully in various team capacities, a multi-cultural environment, at senior levels and with external partners.
•    Strong IT literacy with proficiency in the use of the MS Office product suite and familiar with Microsoft Power BI data analysis tools.
•    Self-motivated with strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks under pressure.
•    Strong commercial awareness and understanding of corporate codes of conduct.
•    The business language is English, therefore fluency in English is essential and fluency in other languages advantageous.
•    A good understanding of the product lifecycle and of regulations impacting the FMCG sector.
•    Working knowledge as a practitioner in several of the following areas would be desired, procurement of packaging materials, identification of fit for purpose packaging material from suppliers, Packaging development, Specification Management, Packaging Material portfolio management, complexity reduction, Hand over to Manufacturing, Regulatory and Safety assessment as they apply to Packaging materials e.g. Reach. Data management & reporting.
