About the role
The IT&D Director – Technical Projects is responsible for leading large‑scale, complex infrastructure transformation initiatives across the enterprise. This role provides strategic oversight, ensures technical delivery excellence, and drives cross-functional alignment to deliver resilient, secure, and scalable infrastructure platforms. The director will manage a portfolio of Global infrastructure programmes—covering cloud, networks, data centre and Digital Workplace —and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned to business outcomes.
Your responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Define and lead the Global Platforms project and programme roadmap in alignment with enterprise architecture and business strategy.
- Provide direction on technology modernisation, cloud adoption, data centre optimisation, and network transformation initiatives.
- Partner with senior stakeholders across IT&D, Security, Operations, Finance, and external partners to establish clear vision, priorities, and success metrics.
Programme & Project Delivery
- Oversee end‑to‑end delivery of complex, multi‑workstream infrastructure projects using appropriate methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, hybrid).
- Establish governance structures, delivery frameworks, RAID processes, and reporting mechanisms for effective programme control.
- Ensure all infrastructure solutions adhere to architectural principles, security standards, and compliance requirements.
- Drive proactive risk management, resolving issues and dependencies across teams and external suppliers.
Financial & Vendor Management
- Develop and manage programme budgets, forecasts, and cost models.
- Lead vendor selection, contract negotiations, and ongoing supplier performance management.
- Ensure value-for-money delivery across infrastructure components, services, and consultancy.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead and develop high-performing programme and project teams, including internal staff and external delivery partners.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensuring clear communication and alignment across diverse technical and business groups.
- Act as the executive-level point of escalation for programme issues, risks, and decisions.
Operational Readiness & Transition
- Ensure smooth handover of new infrastructure services to operations, including documentation, monitoring, support models, and training.
- Define change management pathways to minimise business disruption during major infrastructure transitions.
- Drive continuous improvement and standardisation across infrastructure delivery practices.
The experience we're looking for
- 15+ years of IT infrastructure experience with at least 5 years leading large, complex transformation programmes at enterprise scale.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Advanced certifications in project or programme management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, MSP).
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure domains:
- Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Networks (WAN/LAN, SD-WAN)
- Data centres & compute platforms
- Storage & backup
- Security, identity, and access management
- End-user computing
- Proven track record of delivering multi‑million‑pound infrastructure programmes in global or multi-site environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams, integrators, and third‑party vendors.
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization.
- Experience working with enterprise architecture functions and standards-driven environments.
- Executive-level communication and stakeholder management.
