Research & Development
The Consumer Safety function within Reckitt has the responsibility to ensure consumers’ safety for all of Reckitt’s products. It ensures the application of human and environmental risk assessment and the communication of issues that may impact consumer safety or regulatory toxicology across the Reckitt business.
It delivers this through the mitigation of human harm & environmental safety risks through the safety and toxicological/ecotoxicological review of ingredients, product, packaging and articles across the product lifecycle.
The function maximises automated platforms and leverages toxicological/ecotoxicological and scientific expertise to facilitate innovation, drive safety by design, ensure product compliance and deliver a competitive advantage to Reckitt.
The integrated Consumer Safety team has been created to drive the strategic agenda of the Department by delivering technical safety input in guidance and partnership with the business needs of Reckitt. Success in this space depends on a robust understanding of both science and commerce, and will ensure Reckitt always has the consumer at the heart of all it does.

The purpose of this role within the Consumer Safety Team, which is part of the Regulatory and Safety function (RAS) within R&D, is to provide guidance and subject matter expertise to the company for issues related to environmental safety and environmental risk assessments. To provide environmental safety subject matter expertise to support established Environmental Toxicology programmes such as Pharmaceuticals in the Environment. The senior associate will be a contributor and a subject matter expert within the safety organisation with in-depth technical knowledge of consumer healthcare products.
Your responsibilities
- Work in a matrix team with colleagues from Marketing, Regulatory Affairs and R&D Category.
- Actively participate and contribute in discussions on Environmental Safety related issues.
- Ensure delivery of timely, high quality safety output. to many and varied environmental issues which impact on both existing products and new product developments
- Follow scientific and regulatory development in the field of product safety to pro-actively address and implement new knowledge and standards where applicable. Ability to review and assess scientific literature and provide an impact assessment to the Consumer Safety Department.
- Actively contribute to the development of policies, guidelines and working instructions related to their Environmental Toxicology subject matter expertise.
- Working across different categories globally and keeping abreast of new/ emerging environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, and ingredient environmental issues within all Reckitt product categories.
The experience we're looking for
- BSc and /PhD preferably in Environmental Toxicology/Ecotoxicology or Toxicology
- You will need to display excellent communication skills in both verbal and written forms, good interpersonal skills.
- You enjoy sharing your knowledge to improve results, and are also comfortable having more difficult conversations, when required.
- Experience with environmental risk assessments, data interpretation for consumer products, and use of consumer modelling tools, e.g. OECD, QSAR is preferable.
- Working knowledge of global safety-relevant regulations.
- Experience of Environmental Fate (not essential)
- Experience in monitoring ecotoxicological studies is highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Results-oriented, ability to work in an agile environment, critical thinker and self-motivating.
- Experience in working in multi-functional and multi-cultural teams.
