About the role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical / Controls Technician with a background in industrial electrical systems and controls. Based at one of our largest manufacturing sites Nottingham, this role involves working across morning and afternoon shifts to perform routine maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems.

Your responsibilities

  • Working across two shifts (Mornings/Afternoons), primarily carrying out routine maintenance and fault diagnosis/repair of electrical and instrument systems within production manufacturing or packing areas.
  • Routine maintenance and calibration of some control systems will be part of the area of responsibility - control loops, typically involving pressure, weight, level, temperature and flow.
  • Fault diagnosis (including root cause analysis) and repair of instrument and electrical systems involving, control loops, PLC, motor control, variable speed drives, pneumatic on/off, control valves and online vision systems.
  • Planning and resourcing, including sourcing of materials & spare parts, supervising general & specialist EI contractors and supporting the implementation of minor plant improvements.
  • Key points of contact for the Electrical / Controls Technician are the C&I Manager, Shift Technicians, Manufacturing Technicians and Value Stream Managers.

 

The experience we're looking for

  • Apprentice trained in an electrical / controls discipline, through a recognised accredited body.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an Electrical / Controls Technician able to work independently.
  • HNC/Level 4 qualification or equivalent in one of the above disciplines.
  • Experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cGMP requirements desirable but not essential
  • A good understanding of HSE aspects including, risk assessment, electricity at work regulations and permit to work.
  • 18th edition wiring regulations desirable
  • Experienced in working in Compex Ex01-04 and Ex05-06 environments desirable, training will be provided.
  • Have a minimum level of competence to be able to conduct the following:
    • Install and configure variable speed drive controllers.
    • Understand how to optimize a wide range of automation sensors.
    • Use PLC programming terminals to interrogate PLC code.
    • Make minor software programming changes.
  • Recognize and demonstrate the importance of instrumentation calibration and associated record keeping.
