About the role
As a Data Foundations Intern, you will contribute directly to this buildout — working across cataloging, lineage, governance, and data asset utilization initiatives that span Commercial, Finance, Supply Chain, Media, and Revenue Growth Management. Our Omni program — a multi-retailer analytics solution connecting commercial and media data — will serve as one of your key reference programs, but the scope of your work extends across NAC's full data landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Cataloging
– Help build and populate a structured data catalog covering key data assets across the NAC organization — documenting sources, owners, definitions, refresh cadences, and access patterns
– Work with data and functional teams to identify undocumented or under-governed datasets and bring them into a governed catalog framework
– Contribute to tooling evaluation or implementation for catalog management (e.g., metadata tagging, search, classification) - Data Lineage
– Map how data flows from source systems (retailer feeds, ERP, media platforms, point-of-sale) through transformation layers into analytics and reporting outputs
– Document upstream dependencies and downstream consumption for priority data assets — helping the team understand impact when data changes or breaks
– Support visualization of lineage across key programs including OMNI, Genesis (Revenue Growth Management), and supply chain reporting - Data Asset Utilization
– Analyze how existing data assets are being accessed and consumed across teams and programs in North America
– Identify underutilized data assets with high potential business value, and surface opportunities for broader adoption
– Build simple frameworks or dashboards to track data asset health, usage frequency, and stakeholder coverage - Data Governance
– Support the development of data governance standards including ownership models, data quality thresholds, and stewardship
– Assist in documenting policies around data access, classification (e.g., sensitive vs. non-sensitive), and retention
– Work cross-functionally with domain data owners across Commercial, Finance, Media, and Supply Chain to socialize governance practices
The skills for success
Required
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with SQL and at least one analytics or data tool (Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, Excel/Power Query, or similar)
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to work with ambiguous, real-world data problems
- Clear written and verbal communication — comfortable presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred
- Familiarity with data governance or data management concepts (metadata, data dictionaries, data quality, stewardship)
- Exposure to data lineage or cataloging tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, DataHub, dbt, or similar)
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar)
- Prior internship, coursework, or project work in analytics, data engineering, or business intelligence
- Interest in consumer goods, retail analytics, or enterprise data strategy
