Devices Senior Project Manager, R&D
We are Reckitt
Research & Development
In Research and Development, we're full of highly skilled talents that include Scientists, Engineers, Medical, Clinical and Regulatory professionals - all working to create a cleaner, healthier world. With nine Centres of Excellence, we continually seek out new opportunities by using science, our entrepreneurial flare and our fearless innovation to develop and enhance our existing portfolio, never compromising on quality or performance.
We do the right thing, always, by ensuring we act with responsibility and integrity, by complying with regulatory legislation across the globe, whilst ensuring our products are safe for our consumers and are to the highest quality.
The size of our organisation means you'll have the opportunity to learn and work in different functions within R&D, giving you exposure to different disciplines, teams and environments. You will also have access to our Research and Development Academy, designed to develop our team and allow you to grow in our great organisation.
About the role
Seeking a highly motivated and experienced R&D Project Manager to join our growing team. The right candidate will be instrumental in Devices End-to-End life cycle. This role demands strong cross-functional leadership skills and technical foundation across multiple disciplines, specifically plastic & rubber forming, electronics, motors & gears, and small metal parts. The successful candidate is accountable to align and govern project scopes, ensure Devices meet functional performance, regulatory requirements, on-cost, on-quality, and on-time delivery.
Your responsibilities
- Lead Technical Development: Manage the technical execution of assigned R&D/maintenance projects, focusing on components and systems involving plastic injection molded parts, electronic assemblies, motor integration, and small metal hardware, to meet business desires.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Apply deep knowledge of plastic injection molding processes, materials (thermoplastics, resins), tooling requirements, and potential defects (sink, warp, short shots) to guide design and ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness. Liaise with mold designers and toolmakers.
- Electronics Integration: Design, specify, test, and troubleshoot electronic circuits, PCBA layouts, components (sensors, microcontrollers, power units), and their integration into mechanical assemblies. Understand EMI/EMC considerations.
- Motor Application & Integration: Select appropriate motor technologies (DC brushed/BLDC, stepper, gear motors) based on application requirements (torque, speed, efficiency, size, noise). Design mounting solutions, drive electronics interfaces, and ensure performance validation.
- Small Metal Parts: Design, specify, and source small hardware components (fasteners, springs, pins, clips, brackets, stamped metal parts, etc.), considering material selection, plating, tolerances, assembly methods, and cost. Understand manufacturing processes like stamping, machining, MIM.
- Prototyping & Testing: Create detailed designs and perform simulation (using CAD, preferably SolidWorks & Ansys). Build and evaluate prototypes. Develop and execute comprehensive test plans (functional, reliability, environmental, abuse) to validate designs meet specifications and regulatory standards.
The experience we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on experience in R&D or Product Development engineering roles, in bringing consumer electronics, appliances, power tools, medical devices, or similar complex electromechanical products to mass production.
- Proven, demonstrable knowledge and experience in following key technical areas:
- Plastic/Rubber Forming: Deep understanding of design principles, materials, tooling, process parameters, and common defects.
- Electronics: Circuit design/analysis, component selection, PCBA layout considerations, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience with embedded systems is a plus.
- Motors: Practical experience selecting, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electric motors in products. Understanding motor control basics is beneficial.
- Small Hardware: Expertise in designing with and specifying small metal parts (fasteners, springs, stamped components, etc.), understanding manufacturing methods (stamping, machining, MIM), materials, and finishes.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks & Ansys highly preferred, ProE, MiniTab, PSpice, Matlab etc.). Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
