About the role

• The Manager of Consumer Safety, China is part of the Regulatory and Safety function (RAS) within R&D and will serve as a Safety (Toxicology) leader within RAS and for key stakeholders within Reckitt, with regards to the assessment of toxicology and safety trends that may impact Reckitt products in China.
• The role is purposed to focus specifically on providing management support to our R&D innovation pipeline intended for market in China. This role will also have global responsibilities and provide management support to teams of toxicologists/safety assessors whilst supporting the wider Consumer Safety functions in RAS in all aspects of safety assessment.
• The Manager will ensure toxicological and risk assessment input to support the product development of Reckitt projects and brands marketed in China such as Durex, Dettol and Move Free.
• The Manager will proactively work alongside multidisciplinary functions to contribute to the development of safe sustainable Reckitt Products throughout their product development lifecycle.
• To succeed within this role, you will be able to effectively communicate safety issues and concerns impacting Reckitt innovation products marketed in China. This will include representation within Reckitt RAS pods.

Your responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring the toxicological input to products intended for market in China. Working as a team with other managers and toxicologists to ensure all Reckitt products developed for the China market meet local requirements and company standards.
• Serve as a point of contact for the Consumer Safety team to ensure the escalation of issues to the appropriate project representative in the Global Consumer Safety Department.
• Ensure any nonclinical testing (to include animal testing) is conducted in full compliance with the Reckitt Corporate office and may involve supporting external audit visits to Contract Research Organisations.
• To be part of the management team within the RAS Department, to provide appropriate governance and oversight to ensure delivery of timely, high quality safety output from your team.
• To ensure that the Company safety standards are met for all new (and existing) company products
• To be a credible subject matter expert within the safety organisation with strong business acumen and an in-depth technical knowledge of consumer healthcare products
• As a manager, you enjoy working with and building teams and sharing your knowledge to improve results, but are also comfortable having more difficult conversations, when required.
• To follow scientific and regulatory development in the field of product safety by active participation in relevant external bodies and meetings as appropriate to pro-actively address and implement new knowledge and standards particularly those specific for China
• To contribute actively to the development and training of policies, guidelines and working instructions to colleagues both within the Global team and with specific focus on R&D China.

The experience we're looking for

• BSc with preferably a higher qualification in toxicology or related discipline. A local Toxicology certification or affiliation with an industry association will be a plus.
• Strong experience in serving as a regulatory toxicologist and/or safety representative with experience in consumer product safety assessment
• You will need to display excellent communication skills in both verbal and written forms, good business acumen and interpersonal skills, to deliver the appropriate safety expertise
• Strong knowledge and understanding of nonclinical drug development requirements from a safety and regulatory toxicology perspective, with an appreciation and understanding of the development of Consumer products, particularly China market requirements
• Experienced in technical leadership with proven ability to lead and motivate others
• Proven experience of leadership and communication in an environment of creativity and innovation
• Working knowledge of the principles of generating safety language labelling
