About the role

The Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, designing, and overseeing of the integration of complex automation systems for a large-scale, brownfield plant expansion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing automation with a proven ability to design, implement, and support Rockwell Automation systems.

Your responsibilities

  • Support the Automation Lead in developing best-in-class standards for automated solutions, including (but not limited to) batch processing, HMI/SCADA, data historians, alarm/event management, and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Oversee the commissioning and testing of new automation solutions; lead the selection and integration of robotics, sensors, and industrial automation technologies.
  • Lead end-to-end development of automation projects, from initial architecture through final deployment.
  • Develop statements of work (SOW) for automation and integration partners.
  • Oversee OEM design processes, ensuring timely resolution of questions and removal of project roadblocks.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in automation for cross-functional support teams.
  • Develop, implement, and troubleshoot communication protocols for the SI-88 platform, including integration with PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
  • Provide training to automation and maintenance technicians on automation systems, including PLC’s, VFD’s, and communications.

The experience we're looking for

  • Extensive experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including Logix 5000/Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE, and FactoryTalk Batch.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in controlling system design and integration, with a strong understanding of manufacturing and batch processing.
  • Experience with commissioning and validation in GMP-regulated environments (preferred).
  • Familiarity with database creation and management (SQL a plus).
  • Proficient in industrial networking and communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA, AS-I, MQTT).
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of ISA-95 and ISA-88 standards.
  • Experience with robotics, motion control systems, and IoT integration (preferred).

US salary ranges

USD $85,000.00 -  $127,000.00

US pay transparency

The base salary range for this role will vary based on experience in job and industry, training and education, skills relevant to the position, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to the base salary, the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, which is subject to change each year.
