About the role
The Sr. Maintenance Lead is a hands-on leader responsible for ensuring a robust maintenance planning and scheduling process, enabling high performance across mechanics and electricians, and building team capabilities to sustain safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role actively supports troubleshooting on critical equipment, drives disciplined root cause elimination, and provides insights that shape the site’s future maintenance strategies (e.g., preventive, predictive, and condition-based programs). The ideal candidate is a strong planner and an even stronger coach who can balance day-to-day execution with longer-term reliability improvements within a regulated, food-grade environment.
Your responsibilities
- Own the maintenance planning and scheduling process to maximize asset availability and labor productivity (weekly schedules, look-aheads, backlog management, kitting, permits/LOTO readiness).
- Partner with production to create an integrated plan aligned to production windows, CIP and sanitation, and quality requirements; manage schedule adherence and rapid re-prioritization when needed.
- Ensure accurate work scoping, parts readiness, job plans, and documentation in the CMMS (e.g., SAP/Maximo), including history capture and closeout quality.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and coaching for mechanics, electricians, and planners; enable safe, effective troubleshooting and standardized work execution.
- Run analysis and propose / build technical capabilities through skills matrices, training plans, and certification pathways (electrical safety/Arc Flash, instrumentation, PLC fundamentals, vibration/thermography basics).
- Reinforce a culture of safety, quality, and compliance (OSHA, cGMP, HACCP/SQF, LOTO, hot work, confined space, contractor control).
- Lead/coach structured problem solving (5-Why, Fishbone) to address chronic losses and repeat failures.
- Support frontline teams in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and controls issues
- Ensure effective countermeasures, standardization, and verification of effectiveness (WO follow-ups, control plans, PM optimization).
- Lead analysis for top MTBF contributors and propose action plans
- Propose/ implement activities to improve MTTR
- Provide insights to evolve maintenance strategy from time-based PMs to predictive/condition-based maintenance where appropriate (vibration, ultrasound, thermography, oil analysis).
- Partner with Engineering and Operations on equipment lifecycle planning, obsolescence risk, critical spares strategy, and capital replacement recommendations.
- Leverage data to prioritize work and investments (asset criticality, MTBF/MTTR, maintenance cost, OEE loss trees).
- Support TPM/Lean practices (Autonomous Maintenance, centerlines, basic care, quick-change standards) and sustainment.
- Lead implementation of RPS 2.0 (Preventive Maintenance, 5S, RCM, BDE, Work Order Management, Spare Parts Management, ABC Equipment Ranking)
- Ensure maintenance work practices comply with food safety and quality standards (cGMP, HACCP/SQF), and audits are met with strong documentation.
- Maintain high-quality CMMS data: work orders, BOM accuracy, equipment hierarchies, failure codes, and job plans.
- Track and communicate performance via KPIs and visual management.
- Schedule compliance & schedule attainment
- Breakdown/urgent work % vs. planned work %; backlog health
- MTBF/MTTR on critical assets; OEE impact from equipment downtime
- Workshop 5S Assessment score
- Right-first-time work order closeout quality; CMMS data integrity
- Safety leading indicators
